Monthlies

There is a great demand for covers and special positions in the front of the magazines. Unfortunately, the number of available preferred positions is limited. For that reason, we have worked out a policy for covers and preferred positions. By this clear policy, we hope to allocate covers and special positioning in a transparent way and to formulate a clear response to questions on that subject.

1. Monthlies

Feeling, Gael, Feeling Wonen, Gael Maison, Feeling GOLD & Gael Gold

Are you a top10 advertiser for the one magazine you wish to order a cover in? Top 10 advertisers have privileges on reserving covers.

The period on which the market shares based on advertising turnover is calculated starts on 1 January of the year preceding the allotment of the cover and lasts until 31 December of the same year. The source from which the top10 advertisers are defined is CIM MDB of the year preceding the year of the covers. The calculation is made on the basis of the advertising turnover realised each time for the respective magazine you which the reserve the cover in. The market share is calculated on the top10 turnover.

The top 10 advertisers

A top10 advertiser is entitled to purchase the number of covers in relation to his market share. The number of saleable covers per magazine in a year represents a number of points in total, this total being different per magazine, amongst others because of the fluctuating periodicity. If a magazine, e.g., represents 40 points and a customer has a 25% market share, than that customer is entitled to 10 points.

When counting the points, the following values are used:

Cover 4 = +3 points
Cover 3 = – 2 points
Cover 2 = +2 points

The top10 customers are informed on their purchasing right for covers by Sanoma.

Example:

The advertiser “MyChoice” is the largest advertiser in Feeling in 2011 with a turnover (source: CIM MDB and own data) of 500,000 euros while the top10 advertisers invest 2,000,000 Euro.
– So “MyChoice’s” market share is 25%.
– As the total of covers for 2012 in Feeling is 40 points, the advertiser “MyChoice” is entitled to purchase 10 cover points.

The advertiser is informed about this and gets first choice of covers:
C4 February 3 points ; C2 June 2 points ; C4 August 3 points ; C2 September 2 points ; C2 December 2 points ; C3 October -2 points

Total 10 points out of 10 available points.

Advertiser “MyChoice” sends his signed order to Sanoma after which the top 2 customer is contacted following the same process

Important:

– Reservation of covers only applies if we receive a signed order.
– Reserved covers cannot be cancelled nor changed.
– Reserving a special creative formula does not take priority over the normal rules for the alotment of covers. If the customer wishes to reserve a special creative formula such as a gatefold, e.g., he will first need to reserve a cover the abovementioned rules apply to.

Covers of Feeling – Gael  reserved for fashion advertisers: The covers of the March, April, September and October issues (issues end of February, March, August and September) are the exclusive privilege of fashion advertisers.

Covers Feeling Wonen – Gael Maison reserved for decoration advertisers: The covers of the issues appearing in February, March, September and October are the exclusive privilege for decoration advertisers.

After the top10 customers have been contacted, the non-allotted covers are made available to the non-top10 customers.

Non-top10 advertisers

After having contacted the top10 customers who can use their purchasing rights, the non-reserved covers are make available to the non-top10 customers. If you wish to know the available covers, please call or e-mail your contact.

A non-top 10 customer can buy just one and only one cover 2, 3 of 4. The purchase of a 3rd cover gives an extra purchasing right of a 2nd or 4th cover if available.

Important: 

A reserved order for a cover cannot be cancelled nor modified.

The following rules apply to the validity of options:
– an option is valid for 2 weeks if the period between the day the option is taken and the issue date is < 3 months.
– an option is valid for 4 weeks if the period between the day the option is taken and the issue date is > 3 months and < 6 months.
– an option is valid for 6 weeks if the period between the day the option is taken and the issue date is > 6 months.

The deadline for an option can never be later than the usual deadline for the reservation of an advertisement. After the term of validity of the option has passed the customer is notified and will be given 7 calendar days to reconsider the option and to either cancel it or send us a signed order.  Each new reservation preceded by a cancellation of an option will only be accepted if a signed order is delivered to us immediately.

If a customer has the first option right to a cover, he will be given 48 hours to reconsider an option if we have another customer interested in this cover.

Covers Feeling – Gael  reserved for fashion advertisers:
The covers of the March, April, September and October issues (issue date end of February, March, August and September) are the exclusive privilege of fashion advertisers.

Covers Feeling Wonen – Gael Maison reserved for decoration advertisers:
The covers of the issues appearing in February, March, September and October are the exclusive privilege for decoration advertisers.

– Reserving a special creative formula does not take priority over the normal rules for the allotment of covers. If the customer wishes to reserve a special creative formula such as a gatefold, e.g., he will first need to reserve a cover the abovementioned rules apply to.

Weeklies, specials and other monthlies:

Flair (Fr.), Flair (Vl.), Libelle, Libelle Lekker, Libelle Specials, Femmes d’Aujourd’hui, Femmes Specials

Their are no rules applicable to the purchasing right of covers in weeklies and specials. In other words, the customer taking the first option will be the first to be allowed to reconsider his option.

Contrary to the monthlies, special creative formulas implying a cover do imply the priority over a customer reserving a cover without special formula. This applies in all cases, even if we have already received an order for a cover.

Important: 
1. A reserved order for a cover cannot be cancelled nor modified.
2. The following rules apply to the validity of options:
an option is valid for 2 weeks if the period between the day the option was taken and the issue date is < 3 months.
an option is valid for 4 weeks if the period between the day the option was taken and the issue date is > 3 months and < 6 months.
an option is valid for 6 weeks if the period between the day the option was taken and the issue date is > 6 months.

3. If a customer has the first option right to a cover, he will be given 48 hours to confirm his option if there is an other client interested to take over the cover position.

A reserved order of a cover can not be canceled or changed.
